Bath Township, established after the Treaty of Fort Industry in 1805, was first settled by Jonathan Hale and Jason Hammond in 1810 and officially organized in 1818. Originally named Number 3, Range 12 of the Western Reserve, it was humorously renamed Bath at a town meeting, becoming a part of Summit County in 1840. The township's early government, inspired by New England models, included trustees, a clerk, and a justice of the peace, with Dr. Henry Hutson as the first known Justice of the Peace. The trustees focused on road maintenance, town hall, and cemetery upkeep, and had the authority to levy taxes for these purposes. They also supported the community by aiding needy families and war veterans, a role later restricted by state legislation. Bath's first regular fire station was established in 1922, marking a significant advancement from earlier, more primitive firefighting methods. Over the years, Bath has evolved, emphasizing the importance of fire and police protection in its community development.
